Why This Mystery Had to Go Digital

Authenticity Demanded It.

We considered doing it the old way—letters, paper clues, maybe a wax seal or two. But the truth is: a letter is not a telegram, and a typed transcript is no substitute for a radio communique arriving at just the right moment.

To create a mystery that feels like 1938, we had to go beyond vintage props.
We had to recreate how information actually moved in that era—through telegrams, broadcasts, and real-time intelligence dispatches.

That kind of historical realism?
It just wasn’t possible in a physical box.

Desktop RPG Was the Only Way Forward:

  • Telegrams arrive mid-investigation. Not all at once in a packet. No peaking.

  • Radio transmissions can interrupt your theory. Or confirm it—if you’re sharp.

  • Field agents don’t wait for mail. They need instructions now.

The technology to mimic that 1930s rhythm of urgency and delay—it didn’t exist at scale until just recently. But now, using modern automation, conditional triggers, and timed communications, we’ve made it possible.

This isn’t a compromise.

Common Queries (or CQs, as we call them)

You can jump right in as soon as you sign up, but you’ll receive an official confirmation of your assignment.  Watch for that email, as you will want to mark the sender as safe.

You are securing your place in League history.

This is a living investigation. The League employs a first-rate team of Field Agents that you guide  using real-time transmissions and evidence. The Field Agent’s response time is based on real world factors he or she would have faced in the time period in which your case takes place. Your response time is based on your ability to get back to your desk and read through the clues that your Field Agent sends you. 


Your choices affect the outcome.

Just a browser and a mind built for deduction. No downloads, no printing, no setup.

You might choose to print out your telegrams sent by your assigned Field Agent, but that choice is up to you. The same goes for the documents on your desktop.  You can always go back and retrieve your telegrams again, using the special code provided by the League HQ. 

This experience, though, is designed to be a paperless endeavor, experienced best on a desktop, laptop, or a tablet in Landscape mode. 

Either. The League does not monitor collaboration. However, only one Mysteriologist will be credited per account.

Working as a team could help expedite the mission when clues arrive via telegram or radio broadcast, but that will be entirely up to you. 

Just like everything else in the League of Mysteriologists, your choice creates your experience.

The case will continue. Some outcomes are irreversible. The League archives all missteps for analysis. 

You can backtrack, reroute, follow up on old clues… the choice is yours. But, you do have one mission, and distractions could keep you from solving it in time.

Each assignment lasts as long as the website is up. A typical case could take as little as 3 to 5 days (if you’re REALLY good!) or up to two weeks or more if you get drawn off track or decide to follow up on other leads.

Although the system responds in real time for the era, we understand that you have a life outside your new role as an Associate Consulting Mysteriologist. Your Field Agent won’t keep you waiting, but the case isn’t delayed by your response time; it picks up exactly where you left off.

All the fun, all the challenge, and the only downside comes from the potential consequences of your choices, not your schedule.

The Consulting Mysteriologist Program is a free membership experience for those who prefer their games rich with story, consequence, and discovery. You can leave a gratuity at the end of the game, like a reverse crowdfunding, where you get to play the game before you decide if you’re going to pay for it.
